"In the middle of the fight we knew:
They had come at us like legends.
One hundred up and one hundred down."
Vedran Fable
"Amidst the Tribune and the Fireworks."
CY 512
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
(Hunt is
searching for an energy cube like the one Prieus / Stranger left for
him at the end of The Test. There are a lot of meteorite strikes going
on, making the place shake.)
HUNT: Harper, what does it look like?
HARPER [OC]: Definitely smaller than a breadbasket and bigger than the
tip of my nanowelder.
HUNT: You don't know.
HARPER: Don't know? Easy, those are harsh words when you're talking to
a genius.
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Let's just say I'm on the cusp of knowing.
HUNT [OC]: You don't know.
HARPER: Semantics. Just
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
HARPER
[OC]: Just check your diagram.
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Something's got to connect to this bugger.
HUNT: I am
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
HUNT:
Checking my diagram.
HARPER [OC]: Good, because if we find it, full power to the
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Slipstream core is just a hop, skip, and a jumper switch away.
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
HUNT: I
don't need a pep talk, okay?
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
This is kind of like old times, isn't it? Hey, remember the first time
we had trouble with the slipstream core?
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
HUNT: We
have always had trouble with slipstream.
HARPER [OC]: And then it turned out all we had to do was eject it.
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
How many times do you think we ejected that slipstream core?
(Hunt spots a suitable cube amongst Orlund's loot, then the roof falls
in on him.)
HARPER: Dylan?
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
(Hunt
looks up at a hooded figure.)
HOLOGRAM: Captain Hunt. Captain Dylan Hunt.
HUNT: Er, you're right both times.
HOLOGRAM: Don't confuse me with one of your dull-witted Seefran
roustabouts. You and I are going to have some fun, Captain.
HUNT: Really. Well, I make it a rule not to do anything on the first
date.
HOLOGRAM: I want the Andromeda as soon as you get it running. I will
need everything.
HUNT: That doesn't sound like much fun at all.
HOLOGRAM: I'd like to see how you get out of this mess.
HUNT: Ha. So this is all your work, huh? You know, if you weren't a
hologram, I'd kick your ass.
HOLOGRAM: Consider it a warning, Captain, but nothing more. Soon you
will have no options but to hand over everything you have and know.
(The hologram disappears.)
HUNT: What?
(He gets his comm unit out.)
HUNT: Andromeda? I'm er, going to need a little help here. Andromeda?
Doyle?
[Command]
ANDROMEDA
[on viewscreen]: Yes, Captain.
DOYLE: Yes, Captain.
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
HUNT: I
have a little situation here.
[Command]
DOYLE:
We've got your location.
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
HUNT:
Great, all right. Just blast me an exit out of this place and find
Rhade. He's here somewhere.
[Command]
ANDROMEDA
[on viewscreen]: Weapons fire will be reliable.
DOYLE: I could give you a percent.
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
ANDROMEDA
[on comms]: As could I.
HUNT: Oh, for the love of. You know, just find Rhade! Harper.
[Machine
shop]
HUNT
[OC]: (static): Harper, do you copy?
HARPER: Dylan?
HUNT [OC]: Harper.
HARPER: You're breaking up.
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
(More
roof falls in.)
HUNT: Harper! Beka, do you copy?
[Maru
crew area]
(Someone
puts their hands over Beka's eyes, and she smiles.)
HUNT [OC]: Beka. Do you copy, Beka? Beka!
(Beka kisses her handsome swain.)
PETER: This should never end.
BEKA: Is that a proposal? Because, you know, I don't believe in
marriage.
PETER: I agree. But love, what do they say? It's merely a trick our DNA
plays on us to replicate itself.
BEKA: Now, that is cold, Peter. That is very, very cold.
PETER: Ah, but you're enjoying yourself.
[Seefra
5 Tunnels]
(More
falls.)
RHADE: Dylan! Dylan!
[Command]
DOYLE:
We have got to work this out.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Are you suggesting a compromise?
DOYLE: No, a solution, now. I suggest levelling the playing field by
scrambling all communication, and blast Seefra 5 with a gaussian noise
field.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Or shift the wavelength of the comm link,
focus the beam, and we'll cut him out.
DOYLE: Or kill all non-essential power supplies and draw power to the
weapons system.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Or discharge the magnatron capacitor bank
for a single surge of power.
DOYLE: Or do you mean a single high power blast
BOTH: Will perhaps result in enough power to create an opening.
[Maru
crew area]
(Rolling
in the sack, in candlelight.)
PETER: What year is this?
BEKA: Er, okay. Well, okay. Well, the Seefrans think it's 341 AT9. But
me, I'm not so sure. This place is very weird. You're weird.
PETER: Tell me about Rhade.
BEKA: That's quite a mood killer. Forget it. Let's instead get back to
letting our DNA play tricks on us.
PETER: I only want to know what you want me to forget.
[Seefra
5 Tunnels]
RHADE:
Andromeda. Dylan should be near the Vedran chamber. Triangulate his
exact
[Command]
RHADE
[OC]: Position and open me up a hole.
DOYLE: A strike will only make matters worse.
[Seefra
5 Tunnels]
RHADE:
What's worse than dead?
[Command]
DOYLE:
Efforting.
[Seefra
5 Tunnels]
RHADE:
It's a rhetorical question. Just open me a hole.
[Command]
ANDROMEDA
[on viewscreen]: Double checking.
DOYLE: Triplification.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: How thorough.
DOYLE: Entity of perfect. Rhade, we are nearing commencement.
[Seefra
5 Tunnels]
RHADE:
Forget it. Fire in the hole.
(Rhade throws a grenade at the wall.)
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
RHADE:
Funny meeting you here.
HUNT: It's so funny I forgot to laugh. So are you going to stand there
all day or are you going to get me out of here?
[Maru
crew area]
(Peter
slides a shiny wand over sleeping Beka's skin, and smiles.)
PETER: (sotto) The mother of us all.
[Seefra
5 Vedran chamber]
(Rhade
uses a small jack to raise the beam pinning Hunt.)
RHADE: Okay.
HUNT: Ow.
RHADE: You don't pay me enough to carry you.
HUNT: Ha, ha. Thank you.
RHADE: Now what?
HUNT: That.
(The metal cube with a hole in the middle the size of the energy cube.)
HUNT: Got it.
RHADE: What is it?
HUNT: It's full power, hopefully.
(It is also heavy.)
RHADE: He's not hurt.
HUNT [OC]: I heard that.
[Saloon]
HARPER:
Pretty hairy down there, huh?
RHADE: At least we found what we were looking for.
HARPER: And Beka just didn't even respond?
RHADE: Not a beep or a peep.
HARPER: This is worse than I thought. You're sure that guy's not a
Nietzschean?
RHADE: Ask him yourself.
RHADE: Telemachus and Seamus. Just the pair I've been looking for. The
Nietzschean and the Human. From Earth, right?
HARPER: Yeah, but we're a long way from there, aren't we, pal.
PETER: Yeah. Well, you know what they say about Earth, don't you? If I
had a place in hell and a place on Earth,
I'd live in hell, and I'd rent out the place on Earth.
HARPER: It wasn't always like that, though. The scum of the earth,
lowlife Nietzscheans, no offense, Rhade, turned it into hell.
PETER: The whole planet? Oh. Extraordinary.
HARPER: Extraordinary? Some of us who remember don't take it so
lightly, okay? So maybe choose your words a little more carefully
when you're talking about things like the guillotine, crucifixion,
castration.
PETER: They were busy then.
HARPER: You've got a big mouth. You think you can walk in here like you
own the place. Guess what? I'm going to slap your pretty face into
hamburger meat.
RHADE: Dial it down, Harper. No one's saying it was right.
HARPER: You tell him to dial it down.
RHADE: A lot of unrecognised anger.
PETER: See, that's what I like about you and Beka. Your control makes
you feel superior, better.
RHADE: where is Beka?
PETER: She dropped me off while she makes a cargo delivery. I er, I
have to ask. What is the deal with these?
RHADE: They're boneblades. It's a Nietzschean thing.
PETER: For fighting.
RHADE: For starters.
[Command]
DOYLE:
Mission accomplished, Captain.
HOLO-ROMMIE: We are within reach of full power.
HUNT: No, we are already there.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Let us proceed.
HUNT: Ah, ah. First, get the crew up here. I want everybody to enjoy
the show. Doyle, get me Valentine.
[Maru
crew area]
(Snuggled
in the afterglow.)
HUNT [OC]: Hello, Beka. It's Dylan. Am I interrupting anything?
BEKA: Yes. I'm busy.
[Command]
HUNT:
I can only imagine, although I'd rather not.
[Maru
crew area]
BEKA:
Whatever, Dylan. Thanks for calling.
[Command]
HUNT:
I need you back here on Andromeda.
[Maru
crew area]
BEKA:
Well, I have other needs. Valentine out. Hey, who are you?
(Beka and Peter kiss.)
[Command]
HUNT:
Why do I keep trying to work with her? (straight to camera) Why?
[Maru
crew area]
PETER:
So, you sleep well? No nightmares? Tell me about Dylan.
BEKA: Again with the questions. No. It's a long story.
PETER: I've watched him, and I admire that he's ruthless and efficient.
Creates order.
[Saloon]
PETER:
Trance, isn't it? The resident mystery woman.
TRANCE: So they say.
PETER: Why do they call you that?
TRANCE: Mostly out of boredom, I'm sure. There's not much to do on
Seefra.
PETER: Don't I know it. Yet, they seem to respect you.
TRANCE: Well, they are my friends.
PETER: What do you know of your past?
TRANCE; I'm not sure. Why do you ask?
PETER: How could you not know?
TRANCE: I'm not supposed to say.
PETER: Shush. Really?
TRANCE: There's something wrong here.
PETER: Now I know why they are your friends. Because you're right.
[Eureka
Maru]
PETER
[OC]: Beka.
BEKA: Peter. Miss me?
[Saloon]
PETER:
Absence is the essence of
[Eureka
Maru]
PETER:
Desire.
BEKA: Are you trying to make me miss you?
PETER [on screen]: No, I'm testing you.
BEKA: Oh. Test away.
PETER [on screen]: It requires you to be ever present, more present
than you've ever been.
BEKA: Okay, Peter, stop being weird. What is it?
PETER [on screen]: If you land the Maru, you die. I've put explosives
on your ship. If you try to communicate with anyone, you die.
It will detonate if you try to use your comm.
BEKA: What are you talking about?
PETER [on screen]: If you don't figure this out, you will die in a
matter of minutes. This is your final test.
BEKA: There've been others?
PETER [on screen]: Of course. I had to know how you would react.
BEKA: You have got to be kidding.
PETER [on screen]: Try me.
BEKA: You're messing with the wrong person, Peter.
(Transmission ends.)
BEKA: Peter! Peter!
[Rhade's
home]
(Peter
runs his nails across his chin, and Rhade wakes.)
PETER: Fascinating.
RHADE: Fascinating?
PETER: Rhade, could you stand up, please?
RHADE: Go away.
PETER: I'm serious. I just want to try something.
(Peter takes a swing at Rhade, who sways back.)
RHADE: What the hell are you doing?
PETER: Just curious.
(Another swing, and Rhade hits Peter.)
PETER: Excellent.
(A fight breaks out. Rhade throws Peter into a steam pipe head first.)
PETER: Ow!
RHADE: Fight back.
PETER: You remember this? Never trouble trouble
RHADE: Till trouble troubles you.
PETER: I made that up.
RHADE: Right.
(Peter misses Rhade each time, and ends up breaking a mirror with his
head.)
PETER: Perfect. You are practically perfect.
RHADE: If you don't stop, I won't either.
PETER: You are everything I've dreamed of.
RHADE: And you are a nightmare.
(Peter draws a gun.)
RHADE: Try and use that, and I will kill you.
PETER: Oh.
(Rhade disarms Peter and gets him in a choke hold.)
PETER: Okay, stop. Stop. I can do so much for you.
RHADE: Beyond a good workout?
PETER: Beyond what you now only hope for. You are a piece of work. A
lover, fighter, drinker. Handsome, violent. I bet that you could hold
your breath
for the whole nine minutes it takes to cook a loon egg, and then if I
were starving, you'd make me beg for it. I can smell your adrenaline.
Can you smell mine?
I am you. I am you.
RHADE: You are insane.
PETER: Insane? Well, isn't that what life on Seefra is all about? Come
on, stay patient. I can fix your life. You don't have that much faith
in Dylan anyway, do you?
RHADE: I believe in myself.
PETER: Then you believe in me. Choose me.
RHADE: Why?
PETER: Because you've grown weak. Look, you follow, Rhade. I've seen
you with Dylan. He's your problem. Don't you know where he'll lead you?
Down an endless shaft, and that's exactly what you'll end up with. The
shaft. Deep, lonely, alone.
RHADE: I have my own life.
PETER: No! No, Rhade. You are an incomplete.
[Command]
TRANCE:
I think we're missing one.
DOYLE: Beka is not responding.
TRANCE: Maybe she can't.
HUNT: Andromeda, open a comm channel and override any privacy blocks.
HARPER: Ah, the course of true love with a jerk never runs smooth.
RHADE: Practically gallops with Beka.
HUNT: Doyle.
DOYLE: Opening a communication channel.
HUNT: Thank you. Beka, your failure to report indicates a lack of
interest in leaving the Seefra system, so maybe you just want to stay
here.
[Maru
crew area]
BEKA:
Nothing here. Nothing there. Nothing.
HUNT [OC]: Beka, are you all right?
BEKA: Sorry, Dylan.
[Command]
HUNT:
Great. Leave it to Beka to find trouble in all the wrong places.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: We have her location.
DOYLE: Communication channels are all functioning.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: She is choosing not to reply.
HUNT: Or she is compelled for other reasons.
RHADE: The answer is quite simple, really. It's Peter.
HARPER: Self-centred jackass.
DOYLE: Just because he's weird does not mean he's the problem.
HUNT: Unfortunately, Doyle, in Beka's case, it does.
DOYLE: Oh.
[Saloon]
PETER:
My love, how goes the struggle?
[Maru
engine room]
PETER
[on screen]: You know, I'm enjoying this. I am very proud of you.
You're hanging in there. Very good.
BEKA: Peter, what did you do?
[Command]
ANDROMEDA
[on viewscreen]: Incoming communication from Seefra One.
HUNT: Really. On screen.
PETER [on viewscreen]: Dylan Hunt. Captain Dylan Hunt. Now, I have what
you're looking for.
HUNT: Buddy, I don't even know what I'm looking for.
PETER [on viewscreen]: Beka is mine, and now, I've got you too.
HUNT: What the hell are you talking about? Beka is yours, and now so am
I? Look, pal, as for Beka, you can have her. Me, I'm not that easy.
PETER [on viewscreen]: So tell me, what year do you think it is? Where
do you think you are? When I arrived here, when I bumped into Rhade, I
couldn't believe it. And then Beka. Pha! It was fate.
HUNT: It always is. How long have you been here?
PETER [on viewscreen]: Long enough to get to know your friend Flavin.
That's when all your problems started. So I got rid of him when he told
me all about you, and you, my friend, are trouble.
[Saloon]
PETER:
So, give me your ship and everything you have, or you will ruin my
future.
[Command]
HUNT:
You must be confusing me with someone who gives a ship. Besides,
Andromeda won't help you.
PETER [on viewscreen]: Yeah, but it won't help you either. That's my
point. It's all you have. I've seen Rhade. A tremendous, wonderful
fighter, and Beka? Oh! I have never seen such great survival skills in
someone so beautiful, and now it is my turn to have you.
HUNT: Aw, jeez, if only insecure bozos did it for me, I'd be the
happiest guy in space.
PETER [on viewscreen]: I have mastered the Route of Ages. It's allowed
me to search. Beka told me that's how you got here too,
but it was an accident. I stole the travel technology from the Vedrans.
They were very, very sloppy, and that was some
sixteen generations ago for you, but for me, it was nearly yesterday. I
can come and go to Seefra from the other side, your old stomping
grounds? That's the future for me.
(Transmission ends.)
HARPER: Who is this guy? Why is he after us?
DOYLE: The Andromeda is worth nothing? To anyone but us who know its
operations.
HARPER: Well, on the other hand, maybe things with Beka went worse than
we thought. We've all seen her temper. Imagine being her boyfriend.
DOYLE: There's something else.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Information on this man is vital.
RHADE: He called himself a Routist.
HARPER: Well, if we find out where he's from, maybe we'll find out what
he's up to.
HUNT: We have to think of him in a different way.
HARPER: And Beka?
RHADE: And why she's not communicating.
HUNT: Well, it's like Trance said. Maybe she can't.
[Maru
engine room]
(Still
searching for Peter's alleged bomb.)
HARPER [OC]: Beka? I'm used to you not talking to me, but this is
ridiculous.
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
God knows why you're not talking
[Eureka
Maru]
HARPER
[OC]: But in case you're listening, what the hell, here's some good
news. I believe I can get Andromeda up to full power again.
BEKA: Mmm hmm. And that helps me how?
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
It's complicated, but
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA: Of
course it is.
HARPER [OC]: See, the gravity field
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Generator is working great, but the plasma stream
[Eureka
Maru]
HARPER
[OC]: It's not a stream, it's barely even a dribble. So, all I have to
do is align these two cubes
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Thank you very much, Dylan, and place them inside the stream
[Eureka
Maru]
HARPER
[on screen]: Without severing my hand, and boom! We should be in
business. However, if the cubes are out of whack by even two nanometers
or more, it'll generate a spherical aberration, defocusing the stream,
and killing us all. I guess it's just like any other week.
BEKA: Oh, my god. My adrenaline is pumping at death crisis rate. I
still have no idea what he's talking about.
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Don't worry, Beka. We'll get you out of this.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
Harper. Harper, God bless your pointy little head.
(She activates the cockpit isolation controls, that turn it into an
individual shuttle.)
BEKA: Great. Now at least if the engine blows, I'll be safe. Andromeda?
Andromeda, come in.
ANDROMEDA [on screen]: Andromeda.
BEKA: Well, ain't my face red. Another boyfriend bites the dust, and
this one actually tricked me into thinking I couldn't communicate.
[Command]
HUNT:
Communication, Beka, is the key to any relationship.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
Thanks, Dylan. It's great to hear from you too. Look, I don't know
what's supposed to happen next.
[Command]
BEKA
[OC]: Peter has been a very busy boy.
(Rhade leaves.)
[Eureka
Maru]
HUNT [on
screen]: Yeah. Well, we're coming to get you.
BEKA: No! No, don't come and get me. I may end up in a million pieces.
If I land the Maru, apparently I blow up.
[Command]
HUNT:
Come on, you don't believe that. It's another trick.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
Maybe if we ask him nicely.
HUNT [OC]: Being nice to him is what got you in this mess.
BEKA: No, Dylan, don't come for me. Just get Peter.
[Command]
HUNT:
All right. Keep flying, conserve fuel.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
You're preaching to the choir.
[Command]
HUNT:
You know, Peter's moves are a little too familiar.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Captain, I can specifically identify these
manoeuvres.
HUNT: Go on.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Ayn Rand Station discussion, Strategies of
Horror, Alarm, Intimidation in the outer sectors.
HUNT: Nietzschean.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
Yeah, well, we know Peter's not Nietzschean.
[Command]
HUNT: We
most certainly do not.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA: No
boneblades. Believe me, Dylan, I would know.
[Command]
HUNT:
Doyle, Trance, run the DNA comparisons for every Nietzschean that's
ever been on board Andromeda.
(Trance and Doyle leave. Hunt goes to where he kept the bones of Drago
Museveni in cold storage and opens the casket. It is empty.)
[Corridor]
DOYLE:
Dylan really needs my help. I should be able to figure this out.
TRANCE: But you can't?
DOYLE: I cannot. What am I missing?
TRANCE: A connection.
DOYLE: I don't understand.
TRANCE: Well, no one is an island. No one stands completely alone. The
first step is to recognise the need for help. Living alone is just
that. Whether you're part of a family, an organisation
DOYLE: A crew?
TRANCE: Yes, exactly. That is what life is like.
DOYLE: Android, robot, avatar, alien.
TRANCE: Yes, they all belong.
DOYLE: Where do I belong?
TRANCE: You must choose.
DOYLE: Give myself to the ship.
TRANCE: If that is what you think is right.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
So, give it to me straight, folks. will I live? Will I ever play the
Perseid love harp again?
[Command]
TRANCE:
You'll live alone with someone else.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
What?
[Command]
DOYLE:
We've analysed a sample of your DNA.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: An interesting coincidence. We have matches.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
Just when I was starting to feel special.
ANDROMEDA [OC]: Of former crew members, there are DNA matches with
three.
BEKA: Really? I didn't know I had relatives on the Andromeda.
[Command]
ANDROMEDA
[on viewscreen]: Gaheris and Telemachus Rhade, Tyr Anasazi, and,
ironically, Tamerlane, Tyr's child, whose DNA matches Drago Museveni's.
TRANCE: What is it that they say? All things are relative?
[Saloon]
(Rhade
storms in, and the patrons leave.)
PETER: Anger. I like it.
(Rhade punches Peter across the room.)
PETER: Better yet, Nietzschean anger. Intriguing.
RHADE: What did you do to Beka's ship?
PETER: Nothing.
RHADE: What!
PETER: Nothing.
RHADE: Who are you, or what are you?
PETER: I am you.
RHADE: And you're finished.
PETER: Well, if I am, you are.
RHADE: Fine.
(Rhade punches and kicks Peter.)
PETER: You're not getting it, are you? I'm disappointed.
RHADE: I'll work on it.
(Then Rhade's clenched fist fades.)
PETER: I guess I'll have to.
(Peter finally fights back, with success.)
PETER: Without me, you're dead.
(Peter leaves, and Rhade's hand returns.)
[Town]
PETER:
Boo!
(People run. Peter activates him comms unit.)
PETER: You know, by now, I know you've figured it out.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
Figured what out?
[Town]
PETER:
You know, I'm really trying not to be disappointed.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
Join the club.
PETER [OC]: Nevertheless
[Town]
PETER:
I'm still going to build my church upon you.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA: Is
that what we were doing.
[Town]
PETER:
Our children will never feel pain. I will bioengineer immune systems
[Eureka
Maru]
PETER
[OC]: And defensive nanobots that could stop a biological
[Town]
PETER:
Attack. These nanobots will repair damage internally. You will live
forever.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
Don't take this the wrong way, but you've turned out to be a total
whack job.
[Town]
PETER:
You are the one. You will be the mother of my race. A new race.
HUNT: Hey, lover boy. It's time.
(Hunt throws his forcelances aside.)
PETER: You know, it is absolutely stunning how well you've done. I
would never have thought that it would turn out this well. I'm talking
about the future.
HUNT: I know your real name, and I know what you become. A failure.
PETER: Impossible.
HUNT: I live with the impossible every day.
(They fight. Hunt kicks Peter into the saloon.)
[Saloon]
RHADE:
Dylan.
PETER: You can't kill me. Or rather, should I say, you won't. I forbid
it. You'll have to let me go, and you know it.
HUNT: Yeah, but I'm just going to live in denial for a while.
PETER: Despite what's happening to Rhade.
HUNT: Because of what's happening to Rhade.
RHADE: Dylan.
(Rhade is fading.)
PETER: You know, the question is, do you have the guts?
HUNT: Well, let's play chicken. Andromeda. Go.
[Command]
(The
Andromeda Ascendant powers up.)
DOYLE: Let's get Beka.
ANDROMEDA: Time to target, three light minutes.
DOYLE: Vectoring at forty eight PSL.
HARPER: But what if there is a bomb? Just trying to get her could kill
her.
DOYLE: I'm open for suggestions.
TRANCE: Well, Peter could be bluffing about one thing and not another.
We've seen that before.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: I suggest we find her first.
DOYLE: Then rely on the Captain's instincts.
TRANCE: Instincts? Lucky guess? I feel that we're on the right track.
[Saloon]
PETER:
You know, you'll lose everything.
HUNT: I already have.
[Command]
DOYLE:
We are at full power.
HARPER: Here we come, Beka.
[Eureka
Maru]
DOYLE
[OC]: Beka, we are set to scoop you up.
BEKA: You're all set to kill me, you mean.
[Command]
DOYLE:
Here we go.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
Doyle, no.
[Command]
DOYLE:
I'm not allowed to take no for an answer.
[Saloon]
(Rhade
is transparent and writhing on the floor.)
PETER: You're killing your friends.
HUNT: No. I'm killing a bad dream.
RHADE: Dylan, please.
[Command]
DOYLE:
Beka, do you copy? Beka, we are launching bucky cables. Repeat, we're
launching cables. Hold on, Beka.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA: If
you do this, and you kill me
[Command]
HARPER:
We will always think fondly of you.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
This is humiliating on so many levels.
[Saloon]
PETER:
You won't do it.
RHADE: Dylan!
PETER: You fool.
RHADE: Please.
(Hunt keeps punching Peter.)
PETER: Stop!
[Command]
(The
Andromeda begins to phase.)
HARPER: Er, guys?
[Saloon]
PETER:
Please, have mercy.
HUNT: Say that I win.
PETER: I will not.
HUNT: Well, then
RHADE: No!
HUNT: I have no choice!
(He knocks Peter out. Rhade vanishes. Hunt finds himself with Peter on
a rocky planet.)
[Eureka
Maru]
(The
Maru is beginning to fade, too.)
BEKA: What?
(The Andromeda vanishes, then the whole Seefra system.)
[Planet]
PETER
[OC]: Bring me back! Bring me back! You win. Okay?
(Hunt keeps punching Peter.)
PETER [OC]: You, you win.
[Saloon]
HUNT:
From here to back where you came from, it is over for the Nietzscheans.
Your loss will be your eternal defect, and it will be with you,
in your memory, forever. I have made you and your race genetically
enhanced losers.
(Rhade reappears.)
HUNT: It's funny meeting you here.
RHADE: So funny I forgot to laugh.
PETER: You'll never get back.
HUNT: See you on the other side.
[Space]
(The
Eureka Maru is dodging the bucky cables.)
TRANCE [OC]: You can't outrun us, Beka.
HARPER [OC]: Give it up, Beka. It's going to be okay.
DOYLE [OC]: Got it.
BEKA [OC]: I'm warning you guys, this is not a good idea.
(The Maru is pulled into the hangar deck. It does not explode.)
[Command]
(They
watch Peter's ship fly into the Route of Ages gateway.)
HUNT: You want the upside or the downside?
BEKA: Up, please.
HUNT: If we ever get back to our old fight, the unification of the
Nietzscheans will be easy, because the Nietzscheans will never attack
you.
BEKA: I don't follow.
HUNT: Beka, you are the Alpha mom of all Nietzscheans. That's why Peter
took your DNA.
HARPER: Wait a minute, but I thought you said the Mother of all
Nietzscheans. But you said
(Harper's jaw hits the deck.)
HARPER: But, but Drago Museveni's the Father of all Nietzscheans.
BEKA: So Peter is
HUNT: Mmm hmm.
BEKA: Oh. That's just perfect. Excuse me.
(Beka leaves.)
HARPER: Did you have to tell her? I mean, you've created a monster.
Sure, a cute, lovable, sometimes friendly, but a monster. She'll be
impossible now.
RHADE: If I could sweat, I would. I'm going to be sick.
(Rhade runs out.)
HARPER: So now what?
DOYLE: With Andromeda at full power, we should probably be able to get
back to the other side.
HUNT: Probably.
[Corridor]
BEKA: So
this has been quite a year.
HUNT: Yes, it has.
BEKA: First I find a family, a father, and now my DNA is spread like
jam over sixteen generations of Nietzscheans.
HUNT: Mrs. Drago Museveni.
BEKA: Don't start. I know. I really know how to pick them.
HUNT: Hey, you picked me, didn't you?
(They part company. Hunt goes to check on Drago's casket. The bones are
back.)
HUNT: Round and round we go.
